A bacon garnish, a smoked glass: Lazy Dog’s Old Fashioned
Two views of Lazy Dog’s Smoked Maple Bacon Old Fashioned, with its Tincup whiskey base and menu-listed ingredients. An unscored cocktail feature.

An Old Fashioned with a bacon-candy finish
A strip of bacon stretches across the rim of a faceted rocks glass. Below it, amber liquid surrounds a large piece of ice. It is the most distinctive detail in these two contributor photographs, identified as the same Smokey Old Fashioned at Lazy Dog Restaurant & Bar.
Lazy Dog’s official menu uses the fuller name Smoked Maple Bacon Old Fashioned. The garnish is part of a recipe that also brings bacon into the whiskey itself.
What Lazy Dog puts in the glass
The restaurant describes a Tincup Mountain Whiskey base washed with bacon, combined with maple syrup, bitters and Montenegro amaro. Cedar smoke and bacon candy complete the menu description. Those ingredients are attributed to Lazy Dog; the photographs cannot establish the recipe or its proportions.
The chain’s September 2019 announcement specifically described a cedar-smoked glass. That explains the smoking treatment as presented by the restaurant. There is no visible plume in either supplied photograph, and no smoke has been added to the illustrations.
For context on the whiskey base, explore our American whiskey guide. The finished drink is a cocktail with other ingredients; it should not be treated as a glass of straight bourbon, nor assigned the bottled whiskey’s alcohol strength.
Two views from the table
The bacon-topped view shows the garnish resting across the rim. The other view shows citrus peel beside the ice, with the wood tabletop and bar seating behind it. These are observations from the original photographs, separate from the restaurant’s menu description.

Before ordering
Use Lazy Dog’s website to find a location and check its menu. No receipt or readable drink price was supplied, so this feature makes no price or current-availability claim. We have not assigned a tasting score or invented notes about sweetness, balance or smoke intensity.
For a different format of the same cocktail family, see our Trader Joe’s bottled Old Fashioned feature. That is separate coverage of a bottled cocktail, not a comparison tasting.
