Goose Island Barrel House in Chicago is an impressive space. I really like the facility, and these four photos show why: tall barrel racks, exposed brick, timber beams, and a bottle-lined lounge with plenty of character.

The appeal is in both the scale of the rooms and the smaller details. A wide view captures the long rows of barrels, while a closer look reveals the wood grain, dark metal hoops, and markings on individual barrel heads.

The barrel room

The barrel racks make the strongest visual impression. Several levels of wooden barrels run along the brick wall in pale metal supports, with large timber beams overhead. The repeating shapes give the room a striking sense of depth.

Up close, the differences between the barrels become more apparent. Some are darker than others, and the wood carries its own grain and surface marks. Against the brick and exposed structure, those variations give the space a warm, textured look.

A familiar whiskey name

One close-up reveals a barrel head stamped with the words “Heaven Hill Distilleries Inc.” and “Bourbon Whiskey.” For readers of SuperiorWhiskey.com, it is a familiar name to spot in the room and a detail worth including in the photo collection.

The lounge

The lounge offers another appealing view of the facility. Wooden shelving holds an extensive display of bottles, with tufted leather chairs and a sofa arranged below. A patterned rug, a small wooden table, and a pendant light made from curved wooden slats complete the scene.

The bottle wall gives the room plenty to look at, while the seating adds a more intimate feel alongside the larger barrel-room views.

A space worth a closer look

Goose Island Barrel House looks fantastic. The barrel racks give it scale, the brick and wood add warmth, and the lounge brings another layer of character. Taken together, these four photographs capture what makes the space so appealing.
