ON THE SUPERIOR SHELF
On the Superior Shelf: Old Elk 10 Year Straight Wheat Whiskey
Old Elk 10 Year Straight Wheat Whiskey at 110 proof: label facts, Indiana distillation, Fort Collins bottling and a mismatched store price tag.

A ten-year wheat whiskey at 110 proof
The bottle photographed here is Old Elk 10 Year Straight Wheat Whiskey. Its cream front label carries the Old Elk name and Greg Metze signature, while the brown-and-gold plaque below identifies the category. The neck band repeats the 10-year age statement.
Look closely at that lower plaque: it records 55% alcohol by volume, 110 proof and 750 ml. Those details identify this particular bottle and help distinguish it from other Old Elk ten-year expressions with similar packaging.

Wheat whiskey, wheated bourbon and the current lineup
Old Elk’s official ten-year lineup lists Straight Bourbon, Straight Wheated Bourbon and Straight Wheat Whiskey separately. The photographed bottle specifically says Straight Wheat Whiskey; it should not be identified from the neighboring bottle or the shelf tag alone.
There is also a strength difference worth recording. When checked on 23 October 2026, the producer’s wheat-whiskey section listed 103 proof / 51.5% ABV, while the supplied bottle photograph shows 110 proof / 55% ABV. This entry follows the photographed label. We have not assigned it a release year or carried the current webpage’s mash bill across to this bottle.
Distilled in Indiana; bottled in Fort Collins, Colorado
The rear label states Distilled in Indiana and Bottled by Old Elk Distillery, Fort Collins, Colorado USA. These identify different production roles. The Colorado bottling address does not establish Colorado distillation, and the visible label does not name the Indiana source distillery.

The $99.96 shelf tag names bourbon
The yellow tag beneath the bottle reads Old Elk 10yr Straight Bourbon, lists 750ML and displays Our Price: $99.96. That category conflicts with the photographed bottle’s Straight Wheat Whiskey wording.

We have preserved that discrepancy rather than silently correcting the tag. Confirm the bottle’s product code and checkout price with the retailer before relying on the amount. The photograph does not establish a sale, a current offer or present availability.

The contributor’s three original photographs establish the bottle labeling and the nearby tag. Those originals remain private; all public images are cleaned AI-retouched illustrations. Retouching can alter fine print and machine-readable codes, so the physical bottle and store tag remain authoritative. This is a label-based shelf observation, without an independent tasting verdict.
The Old Elk ten-year lineup, checked 23 October 2026, provides the category comparison and the separately noted current-webpage strength. For another label-based look at distillation and bottling locations, see our Coppercraft Straight Bourbon shelf feature, or browse the Superior Whiskey Journal.
