Sanaig, with the bottling strength left intact

Kilchoman has announced Sanaig Cask Strength 2026 Edition at 57.5% ABV. Its press announcement reached us on 14 October. The familiar Sanaig name remains, but the strength is a useful distinction to check before comparing bottles: the core-range expression is bottled at 46%.

According to Kilchoman’s official release page, this edition follows the same predominantly sherry-cask recipe as standard Sanaig, without adding water to reduce the bottling strength. That makes the year and full expression name important parts of the label.

The sherry influence comes from more than a finish

The supplied press release describes a combination of oloroso sherry hogshead finishes and whisky fully matured in sherry casks, sourced from Jerez. Calling the whole release simply “sherry finished” would miss that distinction. The announcement does not give a percentage breakdown for those components, so we are not assigning one.

What the distillery says to expect

Kilchoman’s tasting notes point to dried fruit and citrus on the nose, chocolate and raisins on the palate, and sweet spice with lingering smoke on the finish. These are the producer’s descriptions, not our tasting notes. We have not tasted this edition and are not attaching a score or a buying verdict to the announcement.

For background on strength and dilution, our cask-strength guide explains what the number can—and cannot—tell you. More alcohol by volume is a specification; the balance in the glass still needs to be judged on its own merits.

From Islay’s Rockside Farm

Kilchoman Distillery is a family-run producer at Rockside Farm on Islay’s west coast, established in 2005. Its farm-grown-barley story belongs particularly to its Rockside range; it should not be read as a claim that every Sanaig ingredient comes from the farm.
